4worldlovers: Masonry is the world’s first and largest fraternal organization. It is guided by the enduring belief that each man has a responsibility to make the world a better place. For over 300 years, Freemasonry has enhanced and strengthened the character of individual men by providing opportunities for fellowship, charity, and the search for truth – within ourselves and the larger world.

Antioch-Brentwood Lodge’s mission is to promote personal growth and improve the lives of others. We take responsibility for the well-being of our brothers, our families, and the community as a whole. We value respect, kindness, tolerance, and our differences – religious, ethnic, cultural, generational, and educational, and strive for harmony in our individual lives, in our lodge, and in the global community. THIS IS NOT RHETORIC, it is what we do.

We meet the first Wednesday of each month at 521 W. 2nd Street (the Corner of G Street & 2nd Street in the Rivertown District of Antioch, California). We begin with a social hour from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, our Stated Meeting Dinner at begins 6:30 pm (Reservations highly required) and our Stated Meeting begins at 7:30 pm.

As a lodge, we strive to be active in our community. We have various charitable and educational events throughout the year, as well as many social occasions.

Masonry is a community of men and their families who share similar beliefs and values. The fraternity finds it important to connect with other men of honor, compassion, love, trust, and knowledge, regardless of their race, color, religious beliefs, political views, sexual orientation, physical ability, citizenship, or national origin. We are friends and brothers, and are connected through this vital and uplifting organization of moral men.

Our continuing pursuit of truth, knowledge, ethics, and leadership skills makes us better men and brings more meaning to our lives. Learning the tenets of Freemasonry, paired with being an active part of our community, gives us the opportunity to develop leadership and organizational skills, and builds self-discipline through commitment and self-confidence.

As a member of the Freemasons, the Grand Lodge of California, and Antioch-Brentwood No. 175, we are a part of a worldwide organization that values tradition, history, and timeless wisdom. The traditions and core values of our fraternity are meaningful today and will endure for centuries to come because of our direct impact in our community, through our charities, and on a personal level.

4worldlovers: Mac’s Old House is a 98-year-old historic treasure in Contra Costa County.

In 1983, the current owner Gary Noe purchased the restaurant, but that is not where the story of Mac’s begins.

The original owner, Floyd “Mac” McKinney, built this old house with his father in 1925. While Mac was still living there, he converted part of his home into a bar. He opened it on St. Patrick’s Day in 1956. 17 years after he opened, he sold it and retired. Mac eventually built the small house that is behind the restaurant and lived there until he died in 1994. 10 years (and a few owners) later, Gary bought the building and opened it on August 5th, 1983. Mac would still come in almost every day for a cocktail and dinner, and he would always sit at the same exact table. Today, his picture and obituary hang above that very spot.

Together, Gary and manager/head chef, Rick Cook transformed Mac’s into the iconic restaurant that it is. In 1969, when Rick was 15 years old, he began working at the restaurant Bertolas in Oakland, and by the time he was 22 he was managing it. Bertolas was a family-style Italian restaurant that was popular for its fairly priced quality food and cocktails. They had multiple locations throughout the Bay Area and were open from 1932 until the 1990s.
