The agency was founded in 1979 by Petra Medelez, a survivor, who out of her own home took crisis calls and housed victims and their children. Su Casa remains dedicated to Petra’s belief that every individual has the right to live free from violence or the threat of violence.

Our primary purpose is to protect families from the immediate danger stemming from domestic violence and to break the inter-generational cycle of abuse. All of our programs are designed with this purpose in mind. We help victims learn how to have safe, healthy relationships and how to remain safe when they leave the shelter.

She is a certified Imago Therapist having completed the training based on the work of Harville Hendrix Ph.D. She also has life credentials for Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education. Dr. Winkler has been a Social Services Independent Provider for families where there are one or more incidents of child abuse/family violence. This book is for people (and those who love them) who have tried without success to remain in Recovery. The majority of people who try to get clean find themselves relapsing before the end of their first year of being clean and sober. There is no mystery why this happens, and it can happen for many different reasons for different people: There is no one size fits all. This book covers everything from the neurological and psychological reasons behind addiction to how to achieve sustained recovery.

The CAAR works with teens to help them stay clean - some have families who ask for help and some ask for help on their own. Sadly, insurance does not cover all but the bare minimum of outpatient services for teens, and effective aftercare treatment for teens is hard to come by, so once they are done with an inpatient recovery program, they are mostly on their own. Without aftercare the risk of relapse is very high. We run this program on a mostly volunteer basis, but still depend on donations to help support actual costs to run this center.
